Background on BCSI-B3

Developed with collaboration between the Truss Plate Institute (TPI) and WTCA, along with great perspective provided by members of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) and the engineering community at large, B3 lays out easy-to-follow standard industry details and serves as a go-to document on permanent bracing.

Designed to be incorporated into the construction documents on a project, B3 is available in various plan sizes so that the structural framing plan can be printed on the reverse side. B3 is also available in a brand new D-size CAD version for electronic plans.

By referring to these standard industry details, designers can make installers aware that additional bracing is required beyond the lateral restraint that is required to be called out on each truss design drawing as specifically noted. B3 can also serve as a valuable risk management tool while sending a consistent message on the standard industry bracing details and guidelines for roof and floor system permanent bracing.
