SBCA Webinar: If “Naked Framing” Could Talk, Who Would They Blame Fires On?

SBCA Webinar: If “Naked Framing” Could Talk, Who Would They Blame Fires On?

Date: Tue, Apr 17 2018 1:00pm to 2:00pm (CDT)

Join us as we explore this question and discuss why building materials are often blamed for fires, particularly those that occur in buildings under construction, and why the finger doesn’t get pointed elsewhere. Panelists will discuss the many different ways fires start and provide attendees with a better understanding of root causes, which will help solve fire risks during construction with the goal to prevent fires from occurring. REGISTER

Speakers:
Scott Stevens, president of Modu Tech, a building technology company based in Baltimore, has spent over 30 years in the forest products industry. He began in the lumber manufacturing sector and has come full circle running a wood truss and wall panel plant as well as a lumber yard. Scott also serves as a Director of the National Framers Council.

Kirk Grundahl, P.E., SECB serves as the Executive Director of the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and spends a large portion of his time traveling and making educational presentations on behalf of this international organization. Kirk’s experience with unprotected fires and ASTM E119 assemblies began with authoring the National Engineered Lightweight Construction Fire Research Project. Kirk is a registered Professional Engineer and has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Additional fire performance background information can be found on the SBCA website under Fire Issues and Fire Professional Topical Library.

SBCA Webinar: Why Is the U.S. Government Making It More Difficult to Manufacture Trusses?

Date: Tue, Apr 24 2018 1:00pm to 2:00pm (CDT)

The U.S. government is increasingly making it more difficult for manufacturers to find people willing and qualified to work in the plant. Similarly, federal lawmakers are not doing enough to address ongoing trade disputes with other countries, which is raising the costs of raw materials. Join the webinar to hear more about these topics, and what you can do to help the building component industry. WATCH NOW

Rick Parrino
is general manager at Plum Building Systems in Waukee, Iowa. A past president of SBCA, he currently serves the association as chair of the Advocacy Committee. Sean Shields is SBCA's Director of Communications. He also handles advocacy efforts and legislative affairs for the association.
