Fire Cuts

Question:

What type of construction uses a fire cut truss? Could you describe a fire cut truss?

Answer:

Fire cuts are generally used when wood floor or roof framing is tying into masonry walls. Fire cuts allow the burning and collapsing wood framing to rotate and fall out of wall without pulling the wall over and thereby allowing the fire to spread. Fire cut trusses are usually bottom chord bearing trusses that slope inwards toward the building.
