Grade Marked Lumber

Question:

When webs are cut is it alright that sometimes the grade mark is removed? From a liability standpoint, what is the rule with grade marks and web members?

Answer:

Section 3.4.3 of the Truss Plate Institute's ANSI/TPI 1 contains the following language to addresses circumstances similar to those you are referring to: “Prior to cross-cutting, lumber shall be identified by the grade mark or the certificate of inspection issued by a lumber inspection agency accredited by the Board of Review of the American Lumber Standard Committee.”
