LEED for Homes was released in January 2008. It currently recognizes just 1 type of certified wood for its green building program: Forestry Stewardship Council, or FSC. However, for its 2009 version (also known as v3), LEED for Homes will recognize additional forest certification programs. (View a PDF of the LEED for Homes rating system.)

The chart at right summarizes the framework of the LEED for Homes rating system. There are eight sections in which builders can earn a minimum of 45 points and a maximum of 136 points.

The top portion of this chart shows the point ranges for each of the four levels of LEED certification. The bottom section demonstrates the number of points available and required in each LEED section. Note that the Materials & Resources section requires just 2 out of a possible 16 points.

Next, let’s look at the Materials & Resources section of LEED for Homes. Click on the category in the box below for a summary of requirements and corresponding points that component products can earn.
