LEED-New Construction has existed since 2005. Its scope includes new commercial construction and large-scale renovation projects. (Note that school and new residential construction projects are covered in a separate LEED programs, LEED for Schools and LEED for Homes.) LEED-NC currently recognizes just 1 type of certified wood: Forestry Stewardship Council, or FSC. (View a PDF of the LEED-NC 2009 v3 rating system.)

The chart at right summarizes the framework of the LEED-NC rating system. There are six sections in which buildings can earn a minimum of 40 points and a maximum of 110 points.

The top portion of this chart shows the point ranges for each of the four levels of LEED certification. The bottom section demonstrates the number of points available in each LEED section. Note that the Materials & Resources section contains a total of 14 points.
