SBCA's Wood Truss Council

  Wood Truss Council
Established in 1983, the Wood Truss Council of America (WTCA) changed its name to WTCA – Representing the Structural Building Components Industry in 2006. At the August 22, 2008 WTCA Board meeting, the WTCA Board voted to finalize the evolution of our name change to the “Structural Building Components Association,” per the recommendations of both the Component Manufacturers Roundtable and Executive Committee. The responses to the subsequent online survey were strongly in favor of the name change. Finally, at the Annual Meeting on October 2 at BCMC in Denver, the members in attendance unanimously approved the name change to Structural Building Components Association (SBCA).

President Ben Hershey facilitated the vote and explained the reasoning behind the change to the membership. “The idea is that to extend our outreach and better represent our membership, we need a name that is also representative of all of us.”

Furthermore, the establishment of councils under SBCA, specifically the Wood Truss Council and Cold-Formed Steel Council (CFSC), will allow us to maintain and leverage the WTCA brand by simultaneously representing key product areas (e.g., wood, cold-formed steel) and industry-wide issues that are not product specific (e.g., safety, workers compensation). The Cold-Formed Steel Council has been in operation since 2006, and we will use the knowledge gained through this model to continue our positive evolution.

Importantly, all transition work will take into account our very positive association brand, and will preserve and enhance the reputation that WTCA has built as we expand our outlook with the SBCA.

SBCA, in concert with its Wood Truss Council (WTCA) and Cold-Formed Steel Council (CFSC), is the voice of the structural building components industry. If you have any questions or comments regarding the name change, please contact Kirk or Suzi.
