The goal of each OQM is to bring component manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers together to discuss the latest issues facing the components industry and come up with strategies on how to successfully navigate them as an industry. Each OQM provides an unparalleled opportunity to build relationships and learn from your peers, and the June 6-8 meeting in Baltimore is no exception. From a legislative day to a truss plant tour to topical focus groups, this OQM will take you beyond the board room and into the world to experience SBCA and its members in action!

Monday, June 5:

  • 6-9 pm: Legislative Briefing & Dinner at Rusty Scupper (402 Key Hwy, Baltimore) – Meet in the Hyatt Regency Lobby at 6 pm. The group will walk to the restaurant together.

Tuesday, June 6:

  • 6:30 am: Legislative Day in Washington, DC – Meet in the Hyatt Regency Lobby at 6:30 am. The group will walk to the Camden Yards light rail station together.
  • 6-9 pm: Group Dinner at La Scala (1012 Eastern Ave, Baltimore) – Meet in the Hyatt Regency Lobby at 6 pm. The group will shuttle to the restaurant together.

Wednesday, June 7:

  • 7:30 am – 12 pm: Plant Tour of Shelter Systems Limited (Westminster) – Breakfast will be served at 7:30 in the Hyatt Regency Lobby. Bus departs at 8 am.
  • 12-1 pm: Lunch (Hyatt Regency, Chesapeake Room, 3rd floor)
  • 1-2:30 pm: Focus Group Discussion – Session 1 (Hyatt Regency, 3rd floor)
    • Component Manufacturing: The Next Generation (Chesapeake Room)
      Moderators: Steve Stroder (California TrusFrame) & Jared Dix (Apex Truss)
      As a follow up to the lively discussion at the OQM in Las Vegas, this session will focus on developing the industry’s workforce and leaders in general and a new direction for SBCA’s Emerging Leaders Committee in particular.
    • Safety (Executive Boardroom)
      Moderator: Jason Ward (California TrusFrame), Safety Committee Chair
      Participants in this session will provide input on the most important safety topics facing the industry today. The group will review the steps to implementing Operation Safety and how it could enhance any CM’s in-plant safety program. Finally, the group will discuss the mission of the safety committee and establish its priorities.
    • Risk Management: A Closer Look at Standard Design Drawing Notes (Lombard/Camden Rooms)
      Moderator: Kent Pagel, SBCA Legal Counsel (Pagel, Davis & Hill)
      Kent will share legal case studies faced by CMs, including how SBCA products have played a role in litigation outcomes. He will also delve into the Standard Design Drawing Notes and lead discussion about how they can be used as part of a comprehensive risk management strategy.
  • 2:30-3:00 pm: Break
  • 3-4:30 pm: Focus Group Discussion – Session 2 (Hyatt Regency, 3rd floor)
    • Ongoing Development of SBCA Best Practices & the Topical Library (Lombard/Camden Rooms)
      Moderator: Jess Lohse (Rocky Mountain Truss)
      The goal of this session will be to provide members with a better sense of the wealth of technical and industry-specific information available via SBCA’s website and an opportunity to discuss additional topics for future development.
    • Component Manufacturing: The Next Generation (Repeat of Session 1, Chesapeake Room)
  • 6-10:30 pm: Group Dinner & Orioles Game at Camden Yards (333 W. Camden Street, Baltimore) – Meet in the Hyatt Regency Lobby at 6 pm. The group will walk to the ballpark together.

  • 12-1 pm: Lunch (Chesapeake Room)
  • 1-4 pm: Industry History Roundtable (Chesapeake Room) – All are welcome!
  • 5-8:30 pm: Past President Reunion Dinner at Waterfront Kitchen (1417 Thames St., Baltimore) –  Everyone is welcome to attend. Meet in the Hyatt Regency Lobby at 5 pm. The group will take a water taxi to the restaurant together.
