Energy Heels

Question:

What is the definition of an energy heel?

Answer:

There is no one definition of an energy heel. It is simply higher than a standard heel truss. Energy or raised heel trusses are used for the purpose of better insulation and ventilation. Energy heel trusses help with ventilation, which can reduce moisture and heat build-up in the attic. The high heel also helps the insulation retain its R-value by not compressing it in to a smaller space. This reduces thermal bridging and “cold corners” at the joint between the wall and roof. In winter climates, energy heels are a good way to go.
